Project Nursery Interview
Many moms would agree with me when I say that one of the most important stages of pregnancy is the nesting stage, when moms work tirelessly to create the most adorable, safe & important rooms in the house – the nursery. A big yet difficult task, moms would lose sleep thinking of ways on how to make their dream room for the precious new addition come to life. This is where the incomparable and super talented moms of Project Nursery come in.
Founded in the spring of 2008 by moms, business partners and design enthusiasts Melisa Fluhr and Pamela Ginocchio, Project Nursery is a leading online resource and community dedicated to empowering parents to take charge of their own design and decorating projects. Updated daily, ProjectNursery.com offers visitors inspirational photo galleries submitted by parents and designers, hip finds for the family home, do-it-yourself projects, clever party ideas, expert design tips, and weekly giveaways.
Melisa and Pamela work closely with some of the leading design experts like Annette Tatum or Gerri and Naomi of Little Crown Interiors, who contribute their talents to Project Nursery. “We have also grown with contributors such as Kim from TomKat studio. Our website is all about the community and camaraderie of parents online, and we love the extended family that Project Nursery has developed through our contributors’ networks,” says Fluhr.

1. Full name/Company/Location:
Pam: Pam Ginocchio/Project Nursery/San Francisco
Melisa: Melisa Fluhr / Project Nursery / Hollywood Hills, CA
2. What do you do?
Pam: With my partner Melisa, I run Project Nursery, a website dedicated to baby’s first room and beyond
Melisa: Provide a resource for parents looking to tackle their own kid-friendly decorating projects via projectnursery.com
3. How did you get started & why do your line of work?
Pam: When I had my first child in 2005, I became obsessed with all things baby. I wanted the latest and greatest on the market and it was important that my baby’s nursery reflect our homes modern style. Melisa and I realized there was not one place to go online to discuss nursery and kids’ room design. www.projectnursery was born.
Melisa: Long time friend Pam and I just wanted to do more. I went from working full time to full time mom. I never really got to be the creative one in my previous career, so I wanted to find a way I could do something I loved from home and be with the kids, all at the same time. Getting to work with really kind, like-minded parents has been a wonderful plus!
4. Do you do anything special to get yourself ready before creatively zoning out?
Pam: A little online shopping therapy. Gilt.com, RueLaLa and OneKingsLane. Gotta check them daily.
Melisa: Make a warm cup of hazelnut coffee, move away from my desk, place the laptop on my lap while sitting on the couch “Indian style” and go! Not exactly ergonomically correct but it’s relaxing and I have more fun designing that way.
5. Favorite color:
Pam: I’ve been on an orange kick for a while so I’m going back to my old standby – hot pink.
Melisa: Gray.
6. Favorite drink:
Pam: Anything bubbly. Love Aranciata.
Melisa: Champagne.
7. Favorite dessert:
Pam: So hard to pick just one. How about a classic banana split!
Melisa: Bread Pudding.
8. Hobbies:
Pam: Running, vintage furniture shopping.
Melisa: Singing at the top of my lungs with my 3 year old in LA traffic.
9. If you could have dinner with two people (dead or alive) who would they be?
Pam: Clinton and Kelly Wearstler.
Melisa: The Jolie-Pitts.
10. If you can splurge on one thing, what would that be?
Pam: A trip around the world.
Melisa: Just one thing? That’s hard as I have a list of splurge items I want to buy but I have my eye on this resin coffee table by Oly. Call for price is never a good sign.
11. Do you have kids?
Pam: Yes, three.
Melisa: 2 boys – 3.5 years and 10 months.
12. Mac or PC?
Pam: Mac.
Melisa: PC all the way.
13. Another random fact about yourself:
Pam: I just starting learning about the practice of vedic meditation.
Melisa: I can make really great Chinese potstickers.
14. A good piece of advice:
Pam: Don’t sweat the small stuff.
Melisa: When it comes to interior design, writing, clothing, toys, and, heck, personal life: Edit always. Because sometimes simple is better.
15. Which social networks are you on?
Pam: Facebook, Twitter, no time for more.
Melisa: Facebook and Twitter.

Fluhr and Ginocchio are currently working on their first DIY design book, tentatively entitled The Modern Parents’ Guide to Nursery Design, so be sure to keep an eye out for it!
